A mad festive season in Delhi and now the smog! It just makes it all the more imperative that you scoot Delhi to a relaxing destination, nevermind if it is not Christmas season or end of the year vacay time yet. Throw in a spa and it would make it perfect. The idea of a good spa break popped up at a special Ladies Lunch organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, India at Thai speciality restaurant, Neung Roi at Raddison Blu Plaza, Mahipalpur, Delhi.
With Isra Stapanaseth, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand New Delhi, playing the gracious host, good food, showcasing of the fine art of fruit carving, express spa and meet and greet of travel enthusiasts livened up the atmosphere. Travel temptations were thrown in by a leading luxury travel operator, Abercrombie & Kent, encouraging everyone to choose their spa destination for the break. Amidst good food and camaraderie promises were exchanged to take the next break there. That was the spontaneity of the moment. But looking back now, I feel the recommendations must be shared. So I checked my Little Black Book and am sharing top four luxury spa resorts in Thailand, that have everything that you need to appease your senses and rejuvenate you back to health.
Chiva-Som Spa, Hua Hin
This one tops the list of anyone who has either been to the resort or is seeking a recommendation. Located in the Royal city of Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand, 185 kilometres south of Bangkok, Chiva-Som is spread over seven acres of lush tropical gardens.
With as many as 70 treatment rooms, the resort houses every facility a luxury traveller may dream of. A kinesis studio, gym, watsu pool, flotation pool, large outdoor swimming pool, bathing pavilion with kneipp bath, sauna, steam, jacuzzi, and indoor swimming pool, you name it and it’s there!
For the health seekers, there are packages to drive you into good health and shape. Be prepared to be served organically-grown fruits and vegetables from the Chiva-Som garden. Chiva-Som chefs sure know how to turn low calorie, nutritious food into a gourmet experience.
Kamalaya, Koh Samui
If there is one resort that continue to rule the award lists, it is the Kamalaya Koh Samui. One of Thailand’s award-winning Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa resort, it offers all that is needed for an enriching healthy holiday.
Centred around a monk’s cave that once served Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat, Kamalaya’s essence is expressed in its name, ‘Lotus (kamal) Realm (alaya)’, an ancient symbol for the growth and unfolding of the human spirit.

The Aman Spa at the elegant and discreet Amanpuri has been accounted as one of the most sophisticated spas in Thailand. Designed after traditional Thai architecture and set in a secluded natural coconut grove above a crescent shaped beach, the spa offers treatments such as Thai massage, lymphatic detox massage and kinesiology. Do opt for clay wraps or a calming Thai sandalwood scrub – these are just what your moisture starved skin needs. The spa uses handmade and completely natural products. Combine your spa therapies with yoga and some meditation. You have a health recipe for life there!
Banyan Tree, Phuket
The flagship of Banyan Tree Hotels has also been voted one of the finest spas and luxury resorts internationally, not once but several times. Housed in the Laguna complex, this Spa is known for its body conditioning spas (such as aloe and lavender, turmeric and honey), scrubs and facials. A friend who recently returned from her Thailand sojourn strongly recommends a Head to Toe pampering with their fruit and flower volumisers. Ah yes, and you must not miss the exclusive Spa Pool Villa experience. This is actually a floating-bed pavilion set amidst lily ponds. Talk about Thai silks and sunken baths!
